The Aquila... came to rest in an oddly anticlimactic lack of fire... The Aquila struck the ground hard, driving the breath from my lungs in a single explosive oath, lurched, slithered, and came to rest in an oddly anticlimactic lack of fire, flood, or rending metal. (Sandy Mitchell.
Anticipated -
I closed my eyes against the anticipated flash... I closed my eyes against the anticipated flash, which punched through my eyelids as brightly as it always did when he fired his favourite weapon this close to where I was standing, and felt the backwash of heat flow over me, restoring a semblance of feeling to my numb extremities at last. (Sandy Mitchell. The Greater Good)Ещё примеры...The happiness anticipated by Catherine and Lydia depended less on any single event, or any particular person, for though they each, like Elizabeth, meant to dance half the evening with Mr. Wickham, he was by no means the only partner who could satisfy them, and a ball was, at any rate, a ball. (Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice)
As I had anticipated, a search was made of the island and it was discovered that
there was no one on it but our seven selves. (Agatha Christie. And then there were none)
